The Buk anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) crew managed to shoot down a Storm Shadow cruise missile. This was announced by the commander of the vehicle crew with the call sign Skobar.
According to him, the peculiarity of the cruise missile is that it flies at high speed and low altitude, which complicates interception.
Of the recent targets that were shot down, there was a Storm Shadow cruise missile. That is, the target itself is quite specific.
The Buk crew "locked onto the Storm Shadow" and destroyed it, the Ministry of Defense noted. Skobar added that most of the targets shot down by the SAM system are drones and HIMARS MLRS shells.
The Buk began to be produced back in 1977. The Russian military is mainly armed with the Buk-M3 modification, which began production in 2016.
The Buk-M3 engages aerial targets flying at speeds up to 3 km/s at altitudes up to 35 km and distances up to 70 km. It intercepts cruise missiles and maneuvering aerial targets with a high probability.
