Paris Accuses Russia of Repeated Fancy Bear Cyberattacks for the First Time in 4 Years

The APT28 hacker group even got to President Macron's mail

On April 29, France officially announced years of cyberattacks from Russia against French organizations. According to French intelligence services, the APT28 hacker group (also known as "Fancy Bear") has been stealing information and creating chaos in the country for more than 10 years.

A particularly high-profile scandal erupted after the leak of President Macron's email before the 2017 elections. The French authorities are confident that the hackers' goal was to influence public opinion and create panic among the population.

Since 2021, the number of cyberattacks has increased dramatically. Government agencies, banks, aviation and defense companies, Olympic organizers and the media have been hit.

French officials claim that these actions were aimed at "stealing information and creating disorder" in the country.
