Sadovnichy: MSU-270 maintains leadership with 400 petaflops for AI work

Comparable computing resources are available to only two foreign universities

The country's most powerful computing system, launched in 2023 at Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, continues to hold the lead in the ranking of domestic supercomputers.

According to the rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, the system's performance of 400 petaflops makes this installation a key tool for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks, including data processing without saving intermediate results.

The device, named MSU-270, was initially tested on experimental tasks, and then began to be used by scientific groups for research. Sadovnichy emphasized that similar capacities among university systems are available to only two foreign universities, which confirms the global competitiveness of the development.

Special attention is paid to the Russian-Chinese project MSU-PPI in Shenzhen, where a high-performance cluster is also deployed. According to Petr Kalmykov, a representative of the university, if this system were functioning in Russia, it would take sixth position in the national ranking of supercomputers.
