Self-exclusion register for gambling may appear in Russia

The "Stopazart" initiative aims to protect citizens from addiction and reckless spending

The Federal Tax Service (FTS) has approved a proposal to create a self-exclusion register for participation in gambling called "Stopazart". Representatives of the service announced this in a letter to the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma, Boris Chernyshov, who initiated this idea in February.

The document states that citizens will be able to voluntarily enter their data into the register for a period of three months to a lifetime ban. It is proposed to automatically include in the register those who have debts on loans and fines, if the delay exceeds three months.

Chernyshov noted that this initiative will help reduce the level of addiction to gambling and protect families from unnecessary expenses. The FTS added that the Ministry of Finance is responsible for the formation of state policy in this area.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the attendance of Russian gambling zones (in Sochi, Altai, the Kaliningrad region, and Primorye) for the first ten months of 2024 increased by 35% compared to last year, reaching 1.2 million people.

As a reminder, a law came into force on March 1 that allows Russians to set a self-ban on receiving loans. According to the latest data, about 10 million people have taken advantage of this opportunity.
