Today, AvtoVAZ officially launches the serial production of the new Lada Iskra car. The plant has already revealed technical details about the model through its Telegram channel "Let's get along with Lada".
One of the power units is fundamentally new, never before used on Lada cars.
Lada Iskra will be equipped with two engines - an 8-valve with 90 hp and a 16-valve with 106 hp, which are well known from the Lada Granta and Vesta models. In the basic configuration, the car will receive a 5-speed manual gearbox, also available options with a 6-speed "manual" and a CVT.
"Iskra" is built on a modern global platform that has undergone large-scale reengineering. In total, more than 1000 new components and parts were introduced, of which more than 400 were reengineered to ensure localization of production. By the way, already at the time of launch, the localization of the car exceeded 90%.
The novelty will not replace Granta — both models will be produced and sold in parallel. However, Iskra will be closer to Vesta in its characteristics and design.
Lada Iskra complies with state certification rules for passive safety with a margin of 20%. And as an experiment, crash tests were carried out according to independent programs. Here, Iskra showed the level of Lada Vesta, as well as foreign analogues of the budget B-class.
Composite materials were created for the new AvtoVAZ. They were used to make the dashboard, bumpers, engine intake module and other structural elements. Airbags were also created from a special composition. It is characterized by increased strength.
AvtoVAZ has already released more than 200 pre-production copies of "Iskra", which were used to debug production processes, train personnel and conduct certification tests and crash tests.
The assembly of Lada Iskra will be carried out on the same conveyor as Granta. The body welding shop is completely new, it is equipped with 17 automatic lines and 112 robots.
