Scammers Used a New Scheme to Hack "Gosuslugi" by Screen Sharing

After hacking a personal page, the attacker restricts the owner's access to it

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has reported a new fraud scheme aimed at hacking user accounts on the "Gosuslugi" portal. Attackers force victims to turn on the screen sharing function on their smartphones.

Scammers call potential victims through messengers, posing as law enforcement officers or representatives of government agencies. Then they demand to register on some site and offer help with a condition — you need to connect screen sharing. This helps attackers to see the victim's personal data "in real time" and apply for restoring access to the account on "Gosuslugi"

The confirmation code received by the citizen will also be read by scammers from the screen.

After the conversation, scammers use the data obtained to hack a personal page on the portal, restricting access to it to the real owner. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that enabling the screen sharing function during communication can be dangerous. Although this function is convenient, communicating with scammers can lead to the theft of personal data.

Users are advised to be careful and not to trust unfamiliar interlocutors, even if they introduce themselves as officials.
