54 Years Since the Launch of the First Long-Term Orbital Station: What Was the Salyut DOS Like?

For those interested in learning about the engineering solutions of that era, the "Outposts in Space" tour will be held in Moscow on April 19

On April 19, 2025, at 16:00, the "Cosmonautics and Aviation" Center will host a free thematic "Outposts in Space" tour, dedicated to the anniversary of the launch of the first orbital station "Salyut" in 1971 and the station "Salyut-7" in 1982. Visitors will be able to learn about the creation of long-term orbital stations in the USSR, their creators, and inhabitants.

The guides will share information about the "Salyut" orbital station, which was once a huge laboratory. It housed ultraviolet, X-ray, infrared, and solar telescopes, as well as photographic equipment for photographing the Earth's surface. The first long-term orbital station (DOS) received 27 portholes for observations, which significantly exceeded the number in the "Soyuz" spacecraft.

Participants will enjoy fascinating stories about how and for what purposes the "Almaz" stations and the "Mir" orbital complex were created. They will be able to see a full-scale model of "Mir", which will allow them to better understand the design and functionality of the orbital laboratory. Guests will also learn about how the International Space Station functions today, what scientific experiments are carried out on it, and how it contributes to the development of cosmonautics.

Tickets for the tour are issued at the information desk in the "Cosmonautics and Aviation" Center. To receive a ticket, you must register in advance, and tickets will be issued according to the list of registered participants 10 minutes before the start of the event.
