Crews of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) often destroy high-altitude high-speed targets after one hit. This was reported in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The department clarified that during combat duty, the crew, using a radar station (radar), detected a target and destroyed it within seconds.
SAM crews are on combat duty around the clock and in all weather conditions, scanning the space every minute with special stations, the department noted.
Often, one missile of the "Buk" is used to destroy one target, but high-speed or particularly large objects may be an exception.
About the Buk-M3 SAM system
The Buk-M3 was developed by specialists of the V. Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Engineering on the basis of the Buk-M2. Production began in 2016. The complex is in service with the Russian Armed Forces.
The Buk-M3 engages aerial targets flying at speeds up to 3 km/s at a distance of up to 70 km and an altitude of up to 35 km. It intercepts maneuvering air targets and cruise missiles with a high probability.
