The Earth's magnetic field has been in a state of instability for the fourth day. Scientists are recording new bursts of geomagnetic activity.
According to experts, the planet will be covered by a powerful magnetic storm. It will begin on the 7th and last until April 12.
The solar activity index is currently 4.7 out of 10, which corresponds to the "orange" level. In recent days, there have been 11 flares on the Sun, one of which reached the medium class M.
Flares are amplified by the solar wind (a stream of charged particles), which has been destabilizing the Earth's magnetosphere for three days. The reason for this is a strong negative component of the solar wind's magnetic field, directed opposite to the Earth's field. This weakens the planet's protection.
On Monday, the magnetosphere will likely remain in a relatively moderate state with an activity level no higher than 4 points on the Kp-index. A 39% probability of a calm environment, 35% of minor disturbances, and 26% of a strong storm are predicted. However, a powerful geomagnetic storm, which is already gaining strength, may reach its peak activity in the following days.
After the decline of the powerful storm by April 12, on April 10–11, the Earth will fall under the influence of a coronal hole on the Sun, which will cause new magnetic storms expected until April 15. Further disturbances are predicted for April 22 and 24.
Earlier www1.ru reported that another powerful flare occurred on the Sun.
