Rent Out Your WhatsApp for 200 Rubles and Get 10 Years in Prison: Easy Money Can Turn Into a Criminal Charge

Transferring a WhatsApp account to fraudsters can result in imprisonment for up to 10 years

Transferring a WhatsApp account to fraudsters can result in criminal liability and imprisonment for up to ten years, according to the cyber police.

An account transferred to third parties can be used for fraudulent activities, in particular, for the operation of so-called call centers, which are used to fraudulently extract money from citizens.

By renting out their account, a person automatically becomes an accomplice to the crime. Liability for such actions is provided for in Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud". The maximum penalty is up to ten years of imprisonment.

A specific example is given: one of the participants in such a scheme turned out to be a minor - the boy is only ten years old. He received 1.5 thousand rubles for transferring his account.

Earlier it became known that attackers began to massively offer to rent a WhatsApp account for 200 rubles a day. As a result, they gain full control over the profile, can use it to steal personal data, send fake messages and extort money. Advertisements offering "easy money" are posted on forums, in Telegram channels and on job sites. They promise a stable income, quick payments and minimal effort - all that is needed, according to the scammers, is to temporarily "transfer the number".
