An innovative device for wastewater treatment — a vortex saturator — has been developed and patented at Penza State University (PSU) and the Penza State University of Architecture and Construction. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
Experts combined two popular methods of flotation treatment — vacuum and pressure (compression) — and developed a new design for a vortex saturator.
The design combines the main advantage of the vacuum flotation process - the small average size of the air bubbles formed. As well as the pressure process - a high value of gas saturation of the liquid.
The device consists of pipes for supplying liquid and air, annular and vacuum vortex chambers that capture the liquid and create conditions for the release of air bubbles. The vortex saturator allows the water being treated to be "twisted" under a certain pressure. This contributes to a more efficient saturation of the liquid with small gas bubbles.
We managed to saturate wastewater with air in an annular vortex chamber at elevated pressure, and release small bubbles in a vacuum vortex chamber at reduced pressure.
According to researchers, the new design requires a pressure of only 2-3 atmospheres, while existing installations require from 4 to 6 atmospheres. This means that the vortex saturator is more economical in terms of electricity consumption.
The device has been successfully tested. A large Samara company specializing in the production of high-tech treatment equipment has already expressed interest in the development.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the "Membranium nanoRO S" landfill leachate treatment system was presented at the WASMA exhibition in Moscow.
