Unreal Engine 4 успешно запущен на российской ОС «Аврора»

A New Stage in the Development of Domestic Technologies and the Gaming Industry

The Unreal Engine 4 game engine from Epic Games has for the first time been launched on the Russian operating system "Aurora", the company's press service reported.

Roman Alyautdin, Director of the Aurora OS Development Department, stated that the success in launching Unreal Engine 4 demonstrates the growing popularity of "Aurora" among users and in academic circles. According to him, the availability of devices with this OS for individuals contributes to the expansion of the ecosystem.

The engine adaptation was carried out by Alexander Navrotsky, a student at the Moscow Aviation Institute, as part of his master's thesis. He used the "Aurora SDK" to port Unreal Engine 4 to the "Aurora 5" OS. The first stage of porting has now been completed.

In the future, it is planned to improve textures, add support for screen rotation, and take into account the security requirements of the OS. A performance comparison of the adapted engine with its counterpart on Android OS will be conducted. Long-term plans include transitioning to Vulkan technology and upgrading to Unreal Engine 5.

In addition, the release of the Godot 4 engine adaptation is expected in April, which will also be available for the "Aurora 5" OS and can be hosted in the national application store RuStore.
