In Russia, the fleet of unmanned trucks has increased to 67 units. Driverless vehicles are actively transporting goods between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The experiment, which began in 2023, has yielded impressive results: the trucks have traveled more than 5.8 million kilometers and transported over 640,000 cubic meters of cargo. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport.
An operator is still in the cabin, but since last year they have moved to the passenger seat. In the future, it is planned to launch fully unmanned flights that will operate on the Central Ring Road (TsKAD) and the M-12 highway.
Deputy Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin emphasized that the experiment, which began with three trucks, has contributed to the creation of a new industry in a short time. A significant number of large Russian companies are already participating in it. According to Nikitin, expanding the geography of the experiment will promote the technology of autonomous cargo transportation. Trials on the TsKAD are planned to begin in the near future.
