Rosatom has started the construction of power unit No. 8 at the Leningrad NPP. Concreting of the foundation of the reactor building of power unit No. 4 has already begun. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.
This is a key stage of construction. The new generation "3+" power unit with a VVER-1200 reactor will replace the retiring capacities and provide the region with low-carbon nuclear energy.
The works are being carried out ahead of schedule. The area of the foundation slab is 2100 m², the volume of concrete is 5.5 thousand m³.
Leningrad NPP is the only station in Russia where power units of two different types operate — channel uranium-graphite (RBMK, power units No. 3 and No. 4) and water-cooled (VVER-1200, power units No. 5 and No. 6). Reactors of the second type will also operate at power units No. 7 and No. 8.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the "machine vision" system started monitoring the work of employees of the Leningrad NPP.
