The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will determine the procedure for the combat use of the "IFF" (Identification Friend or Foe) system. The corresponding clause has been added to the regulation on the military department.
Establishes the procedure for combat use and ensuring the safety of the use of the state radar identification system and means in the Russian Federation.
The explanatory note to the document noted that previously none of the federal executive bodies had been granted such powers.
The "IFF" system is a technical complex for automatically distinguishing troops from enemy equipment and forces. As part of the system's operation, air defense elements exchange signals with aircraft. It avoids hitting own combat aircraft.
