New Orlan-MKS Spacesuits Ordered for the Russian Orbital Station

Two of them will go to space in 2028, the third will be delivered later

As part of preparations for the launch of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), three new generation spacesuits have been ordered. Two of them, the Orlan-MKS model, will be sent in the airlock module, which is scheduled to launch in 2028. The third spacesuit will be delivered later via the Progress cargo ship.

The General Director of NPP Zvezda, Sergei Pozdnyakov, reported that the launch of the airlock module is scheduled for the second half of 2028, shortly after the launch of the first scientific and energy module in late 2027.

The deployment of the ROS will take place in two stages. The first stage will launch four key modules, including the scientific-energy and airlock modules. The second stage will be completed with the addition of two target modules.

The total cost of the project will be 608.9 billion rubles, of which 150 billion will be allocated in the first three years. The Orlan-MKS spacesuits will ensure the safety of astronauts while working on the station. They are equipped with new systems, including automated cooling and a modern information panel.
