«Igla» sharpened against «Baba Yaga»: a pocket air defense system was equipped with a new thermal imaging sight

The complex will detect a heavy hexacopter at a distance of up to 1000 m

Craftsmen managed to synchronize the Igla man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) with a modern thermal imaging sight. The first shots of testing the novelty appeared on the Web.

The complex is capable of detecting heavy drones such as the Baba Yaga at a distance of up to 1000 m, as well as large kamikaze drones at a distance of up to 3000 m.

To save the matrix photodetector at the moment of powerful IR radiation from the torch of the starting 9M336 anti-aircraft missile engine, the lens of the thermal imaging sight has to be closed.

The Igla-S MANPADS is designed to engage all types of aircraft and helicopters, as well as small-sized air targets such as cruise missiles and drones.

Tactical and technical characteristics of the Igla MANPADS:

  • Rocket body diameter — 72 mm
  • Rocket length — 1.67 m
  • Starting rocket mass — 10.6 kg
  • Rocket warhead mass — 1.3 kg
  • Complex mass in combat position — 17 kg
  • Range of targets hit — up to 5.2 km
  • Height of targets hit — from 10 m to 3.5 km

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia will sell engines for T-72 tanks to India for $248 million.
