Footage has appeared online showing a Ka-52 Alligator helicopter shooting down a long-range kamikaze drone with fire from a 30-mm 2A42-1 automatic cannon, converted from a light aircraft.
Helicopters have been used to intercept drones many times before, but this is the first time a drone based on a light aircraft has been hit.
In addition to the cannon, the Ka-52 is armed with air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, unguided missiles of 80 or 122 mm caliber, cannons in containers, and aerial bombs.
The Ka-52 is equipped with stealth devices, an electronic warfare system, and active countermeasures. The crew cabin is equipped with an ejection-shock absorption system.
