Member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Nemkin stated that the Telegram messenger should revise its content moderation rules. According to him, blocking is not always effective, as extremist materials often remain available.
This statement was made against the backdrop of the recent blocking of Telegram in Dagestan and Chechnya at the request of law enforcement agencies. Nemkin noted that the platform should be more careful about removing prohibited materials.
For some reason, some materials are removed, while others are ignored. Unfortunately, it is extremist materials that often avoid blocking.
He added that blocking Telegram in these regions is a forced measure, as the messenger was used to coordinate riots.
The revision of the decision depends on Telegram itself.
