The Indian Ministry of Defense has announced the signing of a contract with Russia to purchase engines for T-72 tanks for $248 million. It concerns power plants in fully assembled, fully disassembled, and semi-disassembled condition.
As part of the deal, the parties also concluded an agreement on the transfer of technologies for the integration and subsequent licensed production of engines to promote the "Made in India" initiative in the defense sector.
The Indian Ministry of Defense noted that T-72 tanks are the basis of the tank fleet of the Indian army, which is currently equipped with a 780 hp engine.
Equipping the existing fleet of T-72 tanks with a 1000 horsepower engine will increase mobility on the battlefield and the offensive capabilities of the Indian army.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the modernized BMP-2M also surpassed the American Bradley in firing range by two times.
