Engineers at Novosibirsk State University have developed a new shotgun cartridge for intercepting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Unlike analogues, the ammunition is equipped with special aerodynamic inserts, which provides increased speed and a more powerful charge.
When a drone is detected, the shooter takes aim and fires a shotgun charge towards the drone. Upon impact on the primer, the gunpowder charge pushes the pellets out of the wad - container, and the aerodynamic inserts help to push the pellets apart.
The scientists managed to make the threads connecting the striking elements longer and thinner. Another innovation is that the elements themselves are made of different sizes and weights, and braking aerodynamic inserts are added inside the cartridge, which provides a denser packing of the shot.
The different weight of the pellets provides a strong aerodynamic tension of the thread connecting the pellets of different sizes. The колебания of the long thread in front of the drone's course increases the effectiveness of the bundle's impact on the UAV's propellers, tangling them and knocking them off course.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the "Atlant" missile ship with the "Vulkan" launcher and RBU-6000 rocket launchers has entered the Barents Sea.
