The average age of passenger cars registered in Russia has increased from 15.2 to 15.5 years in one year. This is evidenced by data from the Avtostat agency.
The average age of cars has increased for all brands except Chinese ones. Sergey Udalov, an analyst at Avtostat, notes that currently there is a small proportion of old cars being disposed of - about 3% - and insufficient sales of new cars for active fleet renewal.
At the beginning of 2023, the average age of passenger cars in Russia was 14.7 years, a year earlier - 14 years, and at the beginning of 2021 - 13.9 years.
In order for the fleet not to age - or at least not so intensively, it is necessary to sell 2–2.2 million cars. And in order for it to gradually renew, it is necessary to sell 3 million cars.
According to Avtostat statistics, about 47.5 million passenger cars are registered in Russia. At the same time, 70.5% of them are over ten years old. Last year, 1.57 million new cars were sold.
The oldest cars in the country are of Russian production. Their average age at the beginning of 2023 was 18.7 years. Japanese brands ranked second, with their average age increasing to 17.1 years. American brands round out the top three, with their average age reaching 15.4 years.
Next come European and Korean brands, whose figures are 13.6 and 11.5 years, respectively. The "youngest" remain passenger cars of Chinese production, the average age of which is 4.9 years.
