"Turn on your brain": Fraudsters catch victims on Internet forums for protection against scammers

VTB warned about a new fraudulent scheme spreading on cybersecurity forums

A new fraudulent scheme has emerged to deceive Russians on Internet forums with financial security advice. Those who have already fallen victim to cybercriminals are being caught.

According to a VTB study, people who have suffered from telephone scammers worry and start looking for information online about how to protect themselves from such attacks. They may come across websites with reviews and opinions from those who have encountered various types of fraud.

However, these sites may be hiding criminals who convince users that they have indeed dealt with scammers and that they urgently need to take measures to save their money. Following the instructions of these people, the victims eventually lose their savings by transferring funds to unknown accounts.

Bank analysts note that in the modern world, people are used to looking for any information on the Internet. Therefore, for many Russians, chats and forums are the main sources of information about financial security. However, it is worth remembering that "advisers" on such platforms may be scammers.

Therefore, it is important to "turn on your brain" when it comes to your money. Funds can only be safe in the account that was opened directly with the bank, and unfortunately, it is impossible to cancel a payment that has already been made.
Dmitry Revyakin, Vice President of VTB

As the bank representative noted, it is now important to be careful about various offers, carefully read messages and notifications, and not transmit the codes received in them.
