Мошенники звонят россиянам под видом техподдержки: как защитить свои данные

Attackers impersonate security specialists and try to gain access to Russians' personal information

Scammers have started calling Russians, posing as technical specialists from software development companies. This was announced by Andrey Biichuk, director of the "Defender" service at MTS. Criminals may pose as developers of antivirus programs or messengers.

During the conversation, the scammer informs the victim about "suspicious activity" on their devices and strongly recommends conducting an urgent check to protect personal data. To do this, the attacker asks to turn on screen sharing on a mobile device or computer, and then download an application for "protection". In reality, the software provides the attacker with remote access, allowing them to see information on the screen in real time. After that, the victim is asked to urgently change all passwords, which may lead to a leak of banking data.

Official companies never require remote access over the phone. It is better to call back using the number listed on the company's website to confirm the information
