The number of mining farms in Russia continues to grow: in 2024, their number increased by 7%, reaching 136,600. This is evidenced by calculations from MTS EnergyTool.
The leading regions in terms of the number of mining facilities are the Irkutsk region, where more than 10% of all farms are concentrated, as well as Moscow (9%), and the Moscow region (8%). Bashkiria and the Samara region are also among the largest "mining" regions.
The total capacity of Russian mining farms by January 2025 exceeded 11 GW. However, only 3 GW of this capacity comes from legal miners.
In 2025, mining will be completely prohibited in 10 regions of Russia and in some parts of Buryatia, the Irkutsk region, and the Trans-Baikal Territory during the autumn-winter period.
Since November 2024, amendments to the law "On Digital Financial Assets" have come into force, which oblige legal entities and individual entrepreneurs engaged in cryptocurrency mining to register with the Federal Tax Service (FTS) as miners.
