The Russian military has received new 5.45 mm RPL-20 light machine guns. This was announced by Sergey Urzhumtsev, chief designer of the Kalashnikov concern.
I can say that the machine guns are present with the military on the line of combat contact.
The new 5.45 mm light machine gun for the Russian army was first shown in August 2024. RPL-20 allows for a high density of fire due to the use of a belt with a capacity of 100 or 200 rounds.
At the same time, the design ensures firing from the rear position of the moving system and barrel change.
Main technical characteristics of RPL-20:
- Applied cartridge — 5.45x39 mm
- Power type — belt-fed
- Box capacity — 100 or 200 rounds
- Weight with a long barrel, without a cartridge box, belt, PMS, front handle — no more than 5.5 kg
Kalashnikov developed the RPL-20 in two versions: with barrel lengths of 415 and 590 mm. The machine gun has the ability to install a wide range of accessories and modern equipment, and is equipped with a lifting cheek and a folding telescopic stock with a shoulder rest.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian craftsmen crossed four AK-74Ms to combat UAVs.
