The Investigative Committee of Russia has proposed to legally recognize cryptocurrency as property and introduce criminal liability for transferring electronic means of payment to third parties.
The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, back in 2020 expressed the opinion that such recognition is a necessary condition for the effective investigation of criminal cases in which cryptocurrency is used as a subject of bribery or embezzlement.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation proposed to amend the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes, stipulating that digital currency will be considered as property. The new rules will determine the procedure for confiscating cryptocurrency, recognizing it as material evidence, as well as applying measures of seizure and seizure of digital means of payment.
