Scientists at Sechenov University have begun developing cell-based therapies for the treatment of oncological diseases. As part of the new project, scientists will use the patient's immune cells to create anti-tumor drugs.
The principle of the method is to extract T-lymphocytes from the tumor, which are aimed at destroying altered cells, multiplying them in the laboratory and returning them to the body. This approach promises to be especially effective for the treatment of solid tumors, when other methods do not produce results.
According to Marina Sekacheva, Director of the Institute of Personalized Oncology, the proposed method includes two stages: extraction and modification of cells to target tumor cells or their reproduction to enhance activity in the fight against the disease. The developers believe that the use of modified patient cells that have already found their targets in the body can significantly increase the effectiveness of treatment.
