The military has begun using converted standard 5.45 mm cartridges for the Kalashnikov assault rifle with shot in heat shrink tubing to combat unmanned aerial vehicles. A video has appeared online showing the consequences of firing such ammunition on the weapon's barrel.
Footage from inside the barrel indicates that the shotgun cartridges leave chips and scratches, which ultimately can lead to the weapon becoming unusable.
New shotgun cartridges of 7.62x39 mm caliber have been developed for the Russian military to destroy drones. Instead of a metal part, they have a 3D-printed hollow bullet filled with shot. The 7.62 cartridge was chosen due to its larger caliber compared to 5.45, which allows for an increased shot load.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that a unique bunker on wheels with protection against thermal imagers has been developed for the military.
