Russians Warned About Fraudulent Receipts with Fake QR Codes

Scammers are increasingly sending out fake housing and communal services receipts

Scammers are actively using fake housing and communal services (HCS) receipts with QR codes to deceive Russians. These fake documents are almost indistinguishable from the real ones at first glance.

By scanning the QR code and paying the alleged debt, people reveal their personal data, and spyware is installed on their devices. Victims only find out about the fraud a month later when they receive a real receipt.

Experts recommend checking the source of the QR code, using reliable scanners, verifying the security of websites, and always carefully monitoring the addresses and "locks" in the browser bar.
