Reactor Vessel Installed at Akkuyu NPP Unit 3

The third power unit of the Akkuyu NPP has received its "heart": heat installation specialists have installed the reactor vessel.

As with the first two units, it arrived by sea, passed incoming inspection, and then was installed inside the containment zone through the open top of the cylindrical reactor building.

The vessel was manufactured for 36 months. The device is 11.18 meters high, 4.5 meters in diameter, and weighs 334 tons. During testing, the vessel withstood a pressure of 247 atmospheres, which is comparable to conditions at a depth of 2,500 meters.

The quality of the installation was checked by specialists from Akkuyu Nuclear, the independent inspection organization Türk Loydu, and the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK).
