Мишустин анонсировал увеличение мощности квантового компьютера в России

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation believes that only qualified personnel will be able to implement this plan

Increasing the power of the quantum computer and expanding the production of equipment for microelectronics are among Russia's strategic tasks. This was stated by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin at the plenary session of the Digital Almaty forum.

We are setting ourselves other strategic tasks as well. Among them are expanding the production of equipment for microelectronics and increasing the power of the Russian quantum computer, as well as the length of quantum networks.
Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of Russia

He stressed that only qualified personnel will be able to implement all these plans. According to him, student technology parks, business incubators, educational and production clusters, as well as advanced engineering schools are already being created in Russia on the basis of Russian universities.

The Prime Minister is confident that this work will lay the foundation for stable and long-term growth of the industry for decades to come.

What is the power of the Russian quantum computer?

A quantum computer is a device that uses the laws of quantum mechanics to process data. Unlike traditional computers that work with bits (0 and 1), quantum computers use qubits, which are capable of being in a state of superposition. This allows them to perform many calculations simultaneously and significantly speed up the solution of certain tasks.

For the first time, the Russian quantum computer was demonstrated to Russian President Vladimir Putin in July 2023 at the first Forum of Future Technologies (FFT). It was a 16-qubit ion computer. At the second FBT, which took place in February 2024, a 20-qubit machine was presented. In less than a year — by September 2024 — scientists were able to increase the number of qubits by more than two times — to 50.

For comparison, the IBM Eagle quantum computer was introduced in the USA in 2021. Its power reached 127 qubits.
