Discord may be fined 6 million rubles for failing to comply with the requirements for storing personal data of Russians. This violation was discovered even before access to Discord in Russia was restricted. This was reported by the press service of Roskomnadzor.

Roskomnadzor identified the specified violation by Discord Inc. before the decision was made to restrict access to the service.

The platform refused to fulfill its obligations to localize the personal data of Russians. If an operator does not comply with the rules for storing personal data of Russian citizens, they may be fined up to 6 million rubles.

Since October 8, 2024, the operation of the Discord platform in Russia has been restricted due to non-compliance with legal requirements.

The Discord platform appeared in 2015 and was initially aimed at gamers. In March 2024, Roskomnadzor included it in the register of social networks. Previously, the Discord service began to gradually return to work, but not for everyone.

This is not the first punishment for the platform: in September 2024, the court fined Discord for failing to remove extremist content, and in July 2023 — for posting prohibited content.
