A sorbent for cleaning wastewater from uranium has been created at the Far Eastern Federal University. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.
The research results will solve the problem of cleaning wastewater from nuclear fuel cycle enterprises from uranium radionuclides, a toxic and dangerous chemical element. In addition, the developed sorbent can be used for the extraction and concentration of uranium from its ore instead of the ion-exchange resins currently used in industry.
The development is planned to be used to solve industrial problems of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, PJSC Rosneft, and Transneft PJSC. This discovery can significantly improve wastewater treatment processes and increase safety in the handling of radioactive materials.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that an environmentally friendly sorbent for combating oil spills was created at SPbSUPTD. The first batch has already been sent to A.
