Mining centers in Russia may appear in regions with low electricity consumption

Rosseti intends to take responsibility for the placement of mining centers in various regions of Russia. The initiative will help utilize unused power grid capacities in those regions where reduced energy consumption is observed.

Rosseti proposes introducing a special tariff for idle power supply centers. Large miners consider this idea discriminatory, and analysts are confident that the powers of infrastructure organizations should be limited to the necessary technological interaction with consumers.

According to the head of Rosseti, Andrey Ryumin, the company has data on available power grid capacities, as it operates in almost all regions of the country. The issue of coordinating the placement of mining centers has already been sent to the Ministry of Energy for further consideration.

Previously, there were no strict restrictions on the placement of mining centers in Russia. Miners chose locations based on tariffs and the availability of energy resources. This led to a shortage of electricity in several regions. Because of this, the government banned mining in the Irkutsk region and the Trans-Baikal Territory, as well as in a number of other regions, from January 1.

At the same time, Rosseti is recording a decrease in energy consumption in certain regions of the country. This creates the possibility of using free capacities, for example, in the Tyumen region.
