Transmits information from weather satellites in minutes: features of the GIS "Arktika-M"

"Arktika-M" provides round-the-clock all-weather monitoring of the Earth's surface and seas of the Arctic Ocean

The Arktika-M geoinformation system transmits weather information from the satellite in just 10–12 minutes after it receives and processes it. This was reported at the Research Center for Space Hydrometeorology "Planeta", which is part of Roshydromet.

"Planeta" clarified that based on data received from the Arktika-M space system, information is provided about the atmosphere and the Earth's surface. This includes characteristics of cloud cover, hazardous meteorological phenomena, ocean surface temperature, ice conditions, ice drift, snow cover, fire situation, and dust storms.

Currently, the high-elliptical hydrometeorological space system "Arktika-M" includes two satellites launched in 2021 and 2023. Experts expect that by 2031 the group will be fully formed and will consist of four satellites.

The Research Center emphasized that the use of four satellites will allow continuous shooting of the territory north of 60° north latitude from two angles with a frequency of 15 minutes, as well as accelerated shooting with a frequency of 7.5 minutes.

The "Arktika-M" satellites are made on the basis of the "Navigator" platform. They monitor the weather over the Earth's surface and seas in the Arctic around the clock. GIS can transmit signals from radio buoys that help search for people at sea.

Earlier it became known that in 2025 it is planned to launch at least 12 domestic communication satellites, remote sensing satellites, and other types from Russian cosmodromes.
