Akkuyu NPP Received a Batch of Nuclear Fuel for the Second Power Unit

Fuel assemblies were placed in a special storage facility before being loaded into the reactor

The second power unit of Akkuyu NPP has received a batch of nuclear fuel. This was reported in the official Telegram channel of the facility.

Fuel assemblies (FAs) were delivered to the site in sealed containers, after which they were placed in a specially equipped storage facility. There they will remain in accordance with international safety standards until the fuel is loaded into the reactor.

One full loading of a VVER-1200 reactor includes 163 fuel assemblies with uranium enriched up to 5% in the 235th isotope. Every 18 months, spent fuel assemblies are replaced, and 72 or 73 new ones are loaded in their place.

This special fuel for VVER-1200 reactors was produced at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, which is part of the fuel company of Rosatom State Corporation - TVEL. It has a high uranium capacity and allows for rapid changes in power depending on the needs of the power system.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Akkuyu NPP is planned to be launched in 2025.
