Fines for the Absence of Special Signs for Slow-Moving Vehicles May Increase in Russia

The State Duma notes that drivers without a special sticker on the car cause major accidents

The State Duma proposes to increase the fine for drivers who do not put a special sticker "Slow-Moving Vehicle" on their cars. The initiator of the amendment to the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation — State Duma deputy Ivan Sukharev — believes that for such a violation you need to pay not 500 rubles, but six times more.

The deputy explained to TASS that now many drivers are fined for overtaking cars that are not slow-moving, but are driving slowly.

Motorists should not puzzle over whether there is a slow driver ahead and his overtaking will be punishable by a fine, or a slow-moving violator who doesn’t care about the requirement to install an identification mark. Slow-moving vehicles without such a sign regularly cause major accidents. While one driver is thinking about whether it is possible to overtake, others driving behind are decisively overtaking and flying into the oncoming lane.

According to Sukharev, a fine of 3,000 rubles will increase drivers' responsibility for compliance with traffic rules and reduce accidents on the roads.

State Duma deputies plan to submit Sukharev's bill for consideration by the lower house of parliament.
