In 2024, the three largest Russian IT companies — Lanit, MTS, and VimpelCom (beeline) — reduced the number of IT vacancies by 15–18%.
According to Habr Career, the total number of IT vacancies in the market decreased by 5% compared to the previous year, with the most significant reduction affecting developer vacancies. However, the demand for specialists in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) showed record growth: the number of vacancies in this category increased by 43% compared to 2023.
The Lanit group of companies, which topped the ranking of the largest IT companies in Russia in 2020 with revenue of 184 billion rubles, claims that the reduction in vacancies is due to the transition to a new job posting portal, and not to changes in internal processes. The company employs about 9–10 thousand employees.
MTS explains the decrease in the number of vacancies by market stabilization, when the number of applicants becomes higher than the number of vacancies. The operator is optimizing its investments, abandoning ineffective areas such as MTS Auto and MTS Smart Home. MTS currently employs about 10 thousand IT specialists.
VimpelCom reported that the reduction in the number of vacancies is due to the transfer of some employees to new projects in the fields of AI and automation. This allows the company to increase business efficiency without reducing the number of jobs. According to the company, VimpelCom employs more than 26 thousand people.
Despite the general trend towards a reduction in vacancies in large companies, in 2024 the total number of IT vacancies in Russia increased by 12%, reaching 708 thousand active listings. Demand is growing in government organizations (+45% per year), while the largest reduction in vacancies occurred in the transport and logistics sectors (-9%). The average salary for IT vacancies increased by 13% and amounted to 87 thousand rubles.
