The card number — both credit and debit — is not confidential information. Knowing only this, attackers will not be able to access your funds. However, experts advise ensuring the protection of this number as well.
The list of operations that can be performed using the card number is quite limited. For example, knowing it, you can only transfer money to the owner, but you cannot withdraw funds or pay for purchases from the card.
But fraudsters can use this information for their fraudulent schemes. For example, to find out additional information about the card during a telephone conversation. Or to report the receipt of funds to the card, which were allegedly mistakenly credited, although nothing was actually received.
Therefore, although transfers by card number are safe in themselves, it is better not to give it to unfamiliar people and, moreover, not to post it in public access (for example, by posting a photo of the card on the Internet).
Earlier, Russians were named the most common fraudulent schemes in 2025. Top 3: fraudulently obtaining data to steal an account on "Gosuslugi", a "fake boss" or communication in messengers on behalf of the manager, as well as "calls from departments." However, there is a risk that fraudsters will begin to actively use artificial intelligence technologies for their own selfish purposes. Neural networks are making fakes more and more plausible.
