The Myanmar Armed Forces received three Russian-made Mi-17 heavy-class helicopters in December 2024. This was reported in a publication by DEFENSE STUDIES.
The ceremony of commissioning the new equipment took place at the aviation school at Meiktila Air Base. Photos from the event show that the Myanmar fleet was replenished not only with two Russian Su-30SME fighters, but also with three Mi-17s.
Mi-8/17 helicopters developed by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant are one of the most successful developments of the Russian helicopter industry.
Mi-17 in service with the Myanmar Air Force
Russia supplied Mi-17 helicopters in several batches: in 1995, 1997, 2004 and 2013. The Myanmar Air Force received new and used rotorcraft. In total, Russia transferred 21 Mi-17 helicopters. Myanmar also purchased 12 Mi-24PM helicopters.
