Russian snipers' rifles are capable of hitting targets located behind building walls. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.
This has become possible due to the caliber of the standard weapons. Another essential tool for snipers is a thermal imager, which allows them to find targets at night and in fog.
The department added that snipers can operate as free hunters, scouts, or spotters, and can stop the advance of armored vehicles and enemy personnel.
Snipers also provide cover for automatic grenade launcher crews firing rapidly at enemy positions, adjusted and directed by a combat observer.
The Soviet SVD, which was adopted by the army in 1963, is still widely used in Russian sniper units.
SVD Characteristics:
- Caliber — 7.62 mm
- Number of grooves — 4
- Sighting range with optical sight/with open sight — 1300/1200 m
- Initial bullet velocity — 830 m/s
- Bullet range up to which its killing effect is maintained — 3800 m
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the STM-308 sniper rifle was developed for the Russian military. It allows engaging targets at a distance of 800m, and up to 1 km for an experienced sniper.
