A major fire occurred at an acetone production plant in Gatchina, Leningrad Region. The fire covered almost two thousand square meters, including the two-story factory building itself. A fire train, as well as a chemical and radiometric laboratory, were involved in extinguishing the fire.
In the Leningrad region, fire trains play a key role in dealing with emergency situations, especially at railway facilities and adjacent territories. The Oktyabrskaya Railway has 25 such trains, five of which are located in the Leningrad region: in Volkhov, Vyborg, Kirishi, Gatchina and Ust-Luga. These trains are equipped with everything necessary for extinguishing fires and carrying out rescue operations.
Each train is equipped with tanks with a volume of up to 70 tons of water, which allows it to work effectively when there is no water supply. Technical wagons have pumps, fire-fighting equipment, foam concentrate supplies and breathing apparatus. Powerful searchlights illuminate the work area, and the GLONASS navigation system ensures accurate coordination.
Such fire trains respond promptly to emergency signals and go to the scene. The crew extinguishes the fire and eliminates the consequences of accidents, including leaks of hazardous substances.
The fire in Gatchina continues, and the fire train is helping to contain the spread of the fire. The causes of the fire and the extent of the damage are being clarified.
