In 2025, Russia will pay special attention to the development of hypersonic technologies. This was stated in an interview with Lenta.ru by retired Colonel, military expert, and Head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Andrei Koshkin.
He noted that missile and artillery systems will develop with increased accuracy and range. High-tech weapons systems will also grow, offering powerful and high-precision strikes, such as the Oreshnik hypersonic system.
Today, this is the direction in which missile technology will develop. At the same time, our president signed relevant orders for the development of forces to counter hypersonic missiles. This is also a direction that should be developed. We are entering the era of hypersonic speeds and, naturally, there should also be means to prevent such attacks.
Supersonic and hypersonic speeds are the speeds of aircraft exceeding the speed of sound in the atmosphere — about 340 m/s at normal pressure and temperature, or Mach number (M) equal to 1. It is generally accepted that supersonic speeds lie in the range of 1–4.5 M, hypersonic speeds — above 4.5 M.
