The Sun will approach the Earth at its closest distance on Saturday, January 4. For the inhabitants of the planet, it will be observed as the largest celestial body in 2025, according to the Moscow Planetarium.
On January 4, the Earth will enter perihelion, the closest distance from the Sun. This will allow us to observe the largest solar disk in 2025.
Astronomers added that in 2024, earthlings will be able to see two solar and two lunar eclipses. Solar eclipses will occur on March 29 and September 21, lunar eclipses on March 14 and September 7. In Russia, only the lunar eclipse in September will be fully visible.
Also, on November 5 and December 5, the full moons will occur less than a day apart from the Moon's passage through perigee — the closest point of its orbit on March 14 and September 7. In November, the difference will be 9 hours 10 minutes, and in December — 12 hours 8 minutes. Thus, the Supermoon will occur on November 5.
