Starting March 1, the list of reasons for refusing vehicle registration in Russia will be expanded. Now it will include the need to pay the recycling fee. This follows from the new law.
From March 1, 2012, a new law comes into force, according to which the registration of a car, including when changing owners, will be refused if the owner who has not paid the recycling fee within the prescribed period applies to the registration department. This applies to a car that was imported into Russia from abroad by an individual.
Since August 1, 2023, the recycling fee rates have increased in Russia for new and used passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses that are imported into the country for subsequent sale. These changes affected both legal entities and individuals who plan to sell cars imported after August 1 during the year.
It is important to note that the indexation of the recycling fee did not affect individuals who import cars for personal use with an engine capacity of up to three liters. They can still pay the recycling fee at a preferential rate: 3,400 rubles for cars up to three years old and 5,200 rubles for cars older than three years.
As a reminder, new changes to the recycling fee came into force in Russia on January 1, 2025. The amount of the increase for passenger cars will depend on the engine capacity, and for freight transport - on the age and weight.
