A rare American Ford GPA amphibious SUV is up for sale in Moscow. It was supplied to the USSR during the Great Patriotic War under Lend-Lease.
The car's owner claims in the advertisement that the vehicle is currently in running condition and has been 80% restored. Considering it was manufactured in 1942, the mileage is very low — 4,225 km. The seller is asking 8.9 million rubles for the car.
During the war, the Allies transferred 3,200 of these vehicles to the USSR. They were mainly used in offensive operations, so only rare specimens have survived to this day. For example, at auctions in the USA, the cost of such cars reaches up to 225 thousand dollars.
The Ford GPA also became the prototype for the Soviet GAZ-46: this amphibious vehicle was produced by the Gorky Automobile Plant from 1953 to 1958.
