В ЛЭТИ создали робота, способного наряжать ёлку без участия человека

The robot uses artificial intelligence and machine vision to decorate the Christmas tree

A team of specialists and students from the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" has developed an autonomous robot capable of decorating Christmas trees independently.

The system uses computer vision and machine learning, allowing the robot to navigate in space and decorate the Christmas tree according to a person's request or its own "taste." This is the first such device in Russia that completely performs the task of decorating a Christmas tree without human intervention.

The robot is a compact manipulator with a device for gripping objects. The development is based on the ROS (Robot Operating System) pseudo-operating system, which makes it easy to transfer algorithms to various robot models. The system uses artificial intelligence to accurately secure Christmas decorations on the tree.

The project is the result of a year's work by specialists and students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Automation, who developed and tested algorithms for autonomous control systems. In 2025, the team plans to continue working on new algorithms for autonomous robot motion planning and improving artificial intelligence systems for various tasks.
