The modification of the Russian MiG-31I fighter cannot be considered a full-fledged representative of Russia's long-range aviation. This opinion was expressed by a former military pilot, the author of the Telegram channel Fighterbomber.
According to him, long-range aviation has always been considered the elite among pilots. This type of air force also includes strategic missile carriers Tu-95MS and Tu-160, long-range bombers Tu-22M3, and tanker aircraft.
They fly where there is no one. Over the poles and oceans, where there are no PSO helicopters, no rescue, no landmarks, no people, only they and their airship. They fly where you can only rely on yourself.
At the same time, the author of the channel considers the presence of the MiG-31I in this list to be incorrect.
Recently, the MiG-31 was also added to the "long-range aircraft". Moreover, in a separate modification, the MiG-31I. I think this is a temporary misunderstanding that will be corrected and returned to operational-tactical aviation. Their presence slightly reduced the epicness of the strategists.
The main difference between the MiG-31I and the older "K" version is the presence of special electronic systems that improve the aircraft's flight capabilities and characteristics. This version is equipped with a fly-by-wire control system and onboard computers that allow the fighter to be brought to the desired launch trajectory in fully automatic mode and launch a hypersonic missile at a precisely calculated moment.
