AvtoVAZ has stopped producing the Lada Niva Legend and all versions of the Lada Vesta SW station wagons, which came as a surprise to many. The head of the company, Maxim Sokolov, explained the reasons for these changes.
The primary factor is that the production plan for 2024 has been successfully completed: the plant has produced more than 500,000 cars.
The second factor is a decrease in sales, which is caused by the high key rate and, as a result, expensive loans. 80-85% of Lada Vesta car buyers use borrowed funds, and the current financial conditions make such a purchase less accessible to many Russians.
The third reason is increased competition from Chinese manufacturers. The Chinese automotive industry has brought a significant number of cars to Russia, which creates additional pressure on the market. It is expected that the price war with Chinese brands will last until mid-2025, which will affect AvtoVAZ's investment and production plans.
